ALBA-TCP condemns the extension of the U.S. executive order against Nicaragua The member states of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) have expressed their categorical rejection of the recent decision by the outgoing U.S. government to extend Executive Order 13851 of 2018 for one year.
This order declares Nicaragua to be “an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States,” as announced on November 22, 2024.
In an official statement, the Bolivarian Alliance called this measure “absurd and biased,” arguing that its objective is to promote a change of government in Nicaragua in an unconstitutional and violent manner.
“Clearly, the scheme of criminal and illegal sanctions imposed against the Nicaraguan state since 2018 has no other objective than to generate difficulties and restrictions for the Nicaraguan people,” the statement said.
Furthermore, ALBA-TCP denounces what it considers a continuous attack by the ruling elite in Washington against Nicaragua, “in violation of the Charter of the United Nations and international law.”
The Alliance stresses that these arbitrary decisions constitute a real threat to peace and the right to development not only in Nicaragua but also in many countries around the world.
The communiqué reaffirms “unrestricted support and solidarity with the Nicaraguan people, their Government of Reconciliation and National Unity, and its President, Commander Daniel Ortega Saavedra.”
In this context, ALBA-TCP calls on the international community to respect the right of self-determination of the Nicaraguan people and to stop interfering in their internal affairs.
